Internships at Brooklyn
Nonviolent Communication
Brooklyn NVC is a center for
Nonviolent Communication and constructive action working to create
a world where all people's needs are peacefully met. We are seeking
interns committed to nonviolent social change to assist with
all aspects of our organization, including:
*Event planning, including
fundraisers, workshops, courses, retreats, and community events.
*Public relations and outreach,
including leafleting, phonebanking, and writing and designing
flyers, press releases, newsletters, and program materials and
descriptions.
*Administrative support, including
responding to inquiries by email and phone, handling email and
bulk mailings, data entry, basic bookkeeping, and assisting with
course registration.
*Grant research, writing, and
fundraising.
*Tech support, including designing
and integrating new database systems and creating interactive
infrastructure for emails, database, and website.
We are seeking interns willing and able to commit to a minimum
of 20 hours a week for 10 weeks (for summer internships) or 9
hours a week for four months (throughout the year).
Those willing to make longer commitments (such as for the academic
year) are especially encouraged to apply and can take on more
in-depth projects.
Based on interests, experience
and length of time interning, interns can focus on a particular
aspect of the organization or project of Brooklyn NVC, such as
Hungry Duck Press (producing books and other media items), the
Empathy Project (bringing the practice of empathy to public places,
such as parks and street fairs), or the Two by Two program (a
year long program for social change organizations).
Interns can register for any
non-residential Brooklyn NVC workshop or courses for free while
interning. This includes weekly practice groups, foundation courses,
and evening and daylong workshops.

Internships at
Hungry Duck Press
Hungry Duck Press is a small,
independent press run as a project of Brooklyn Nonviolent Communication
(www.BrooklynNVC.org), producing books and materials consistent
with the practice of Nonviolent Communication and aimed to create
a more compassionate world.
Interns work for 5-15 hours
per week and make a four-month commitment (or longer). Longer
commitments are preferred (such as for an academic year).
Internships can include all
or part of the following aspects, depending on the intern's experience,
skills, interests and length of time willing to commit:
*Production: Getting quotes
for printing, layout, cover design etc from different vendors
for projects and, working with designers and director, implement
them (including copyediting, reviewing art, etc).
*Special events and promotion:
Set up workshops and readings featuring Hungry Duck authors and
products, book fair tables, and other events.
*Promoting course adoptions:
Create promotional materials, contact lists, and build relationships
with university bookstores and professors to support course adoption
for textbook titles and related materials.
*Produce PR and other promotional
materials and copy: Including press releases, press packs, email
bursts, and website content.
*Distribution and fulfillment:
Take and ship orders to individuals and retailers, including
review copies, and track these shipments.
*Respond to requests for copyright
permission and other inquiries and assist with general, administrative
duties.
